Public Transit Options

Public transit is an affordable, accessible, and environmentally responsible transportation option that can help link communities and economic centers within the region. Currently, Keene is the only community in the region with a fixed route public transit system.

It's Hip to Hop the Bus!

The Keene City Express  is Keene's bus for everyone. Home Healthcare, Hospice, and Community Services (HCS) is the operator of the City Express, which runs from 8:00 am  to 5:00 pm Monday through Friday and stops at 16 locations throughout the City.

Fares are $1.00 for a one way trip, transfers are free. All buses are equipped with bike racks and a wheelchair lift.

Private Transit Options

For information on access to private bus service, rail, and air transportation visit the NH Department of Transportation’s Transit Links website. Some of these services are listed below.

Air Transportation
The closest major airport in the region is the Manchester Boston Regional Airport. There are two smaller, general aviation airports in the region.  These are:

Keene Dillant-Hopkins Airport: The primary role of this publically owned Airport is to serve general aviation, corporate, and commercial needs, not only of the City of Keene, but the entire Southwestern region of New Hampshire; and,

Silver Ranch Airpark, Inc
: This privately owned airfield located in Jaffrey NH specializes in personal and executive air charters.

Rail Transportation
Amtrak's The Vermonter provides passenger rail service from Washington D.C. to St. Alban's Vermont.  Although it does not operate within the region, it stops in Brattleboro, VT, which is a half hour drive from Keene.

The Green Mountain Flier Excursion Train is not a commuter rail service but it brings travelers to select destinations in the Upper Valley Vermont and NH area. 
 

Charter Bus Transportation
Greyhound provides charter bus service from downtown Keene to the Brattleboro, VT Amtrak Station. Tickets can be purchased at the Corner News, located on the corner of Main St and Gilbo Ave, or online at www.greyhound.com.
